Research on single layers and few layers of materials has demonstrated abundant cases of novel properties, including lattice and charge distortions, magnetic ordering, topological electronic transitions, superconductivity, etc., that are drastically different from the corresponding bulk cases. The unusual physical properties of materials in low dimension have strong potential for electronic designs. Two-dimensional materials, such as transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), Bi/Sb based chalcogenides are excellent parent materials for the study in reduced dimension. In this talk, I will introduce the significance of study on low-dimensional systems and will present some of my research works on van der Waals layered materials using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy as a probe.
