They hold the advantage that all atoms/ions (of the same isotope) are exactly identical in nature and therefore perfect to be used as quantum bits (qubits). In addition to their long-lived coherence, they have been demonstrated to achieve unbeatable quantum logic fidelity, and in principle all-to-all connectivity compared to other platforms. These properties are ideal for dealing with the so-called Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum (NISQ) problems given currently available technologies. In this talk, I will briefly overview the system of interest, the working principles, and the relevant techniques for trapped ion quantum computing. I will also discuss our plan of building up a quantum computer, and a possible route to large scales. Place:ON-LINE |
